Frequently Asked Questions

Nutrition counseling is a patient/client-centered approach to help people live an overall healthier and balanced lifestyle through lifestyle and nutrition/food changes.

Registered dietitians are trained health care professionals in nutrition/food science, physiology, and medical nutrition therapy. We can help you improve your lifestyle no matter what your medical history background looks like.

To become a registered dietitian, a person must complete:

  • A bachelor’s degree through an approved and accredited by the Accreditation of Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition and dietetics
  • Complete an accredited supervised practice program (internship)
  • Pass a national examination
  • Continue professional education through out their career

Initial nutrition counseling visits are usually about 60 minutes.

During your first visit, we review and discuss your completed pre-appointment nutrition form. This form helps me to understand your lifestyle, food preferences, and habits, allowing me to find ways to personalize strategies that are the best fit for you.

Most of this visit will be committed to collecting information about your goals, learning about any challenges that you face, and how I can provide you with life-lasting solutions.

You will leave the session with a couple of techniques that you can start using right away to help achieve your goals!

If requested, a basic meal plan can be provided to help you visualize what a day consists of. This, of course, is personalized to your food preferences.

Follow-up visits are recommended to review your progress, answer questions and tackle any barriers or obstacles standing in your way.

The frequency of follow-up visits varies from person to person. During the start of nutrition counseling, it’s recommended to have follow-up visits about every 2-3 weeks.

We will work together to figure out what will work best for you.
